History
Twigs was founded at Rochester City Hospital in Rochester, New York in 1887 by Lois Whitney. It began as a group of women who enjoyed meeting together while discussing worthwhile projects for the hospital. Deciding that they were not big enough to be called a branch of anything, they humorously called themselves a "Twig." In 1945, Twigs was started at Northern Westchester Hospital. Over the years, Twigs has made a variety of comfort items for hospital patients, and since 1964, has run a thrift shop to raise funds for the hospital.
