MOUNT KISCO PEDIATRICIAN LAUNCHES FREE SERIES OF HEALTH TALKS FOR CHILDREN
"Happy Healthy Children" Aims to Reduce Fears of Doctors' Visits and Encourage Good Eating and Lifestyle Habits
Dr. Peter Richel, Chief of the Pediatrics Department at Northern Westchester Hospital will speak to children ages 3 to 8 about issues concerning their health and well being in a monthly series, Happy Healthy Children, slated to begin at Borders bookstore, 162 Main Street, on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. following story time.
The topic of the first session, which is expected to run 30 minutes to an hours, will be "Magical Medical Instruments." Dr. Richel, who is known to patients and their parents as "Dr. Pete," will bring his medical bag filled with instruments commonly seen at doctor visits and explain their use and purpose with the goal of eliminating the anxiety many children have at their doctor's visit or the hospital. Children will be encouraged to ask questions and interact with Dr. Pete. Topics at upcoming sessions will include the benefits of proper nutrition, cleanliness, exercise, rest, reading and many other health related issues.
Dr. Richel has recently recorded and released "Welcome to Dr. Pete's Office," a collection of songs sung by him with a chorus of children. The artwork for the CD was designed by four of his patients in his Mount Kisco practice. Songs include "Your Pediatrician," "Tyrus the Virus," "Just a Little Nap Will Do," "Hot Shots," and other numbers that address concerns of young children. Proceeds from the CD are being donated to Northern Westchester Hospital, Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, the Children's School for Early Development and the Westchester Exceptional School.
