Northern Westchester Hospital Twigs Thrift Shop Offers Seasonal Bargains, Opportunity to Help Others
For the past 44 years, the Twigs Thriftree Thrift Shop in Mount Kisco has offered antique collectors, vintage seekers, and bargain hunters from all over the region great prices on new and gently used clothing, jewelry, housewares, books, toys, artwork, and more. This season is no different with new inventory arriving each week, including an abundance of cold weather clothing, children's apparel, and unique household items.
The Twigs Thrift Shop, located at 449 Lexington Avenue in Mount Kisco, was founded in 1964 by the Twigs Thriftree, an all-volunteer group founded in 1945 to raise funds for Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) and to provide comfort items-such as cough pillows, layettes and tray favors-for its patients. All Thrift Shop inventory is donated and all net proceeds benefit the Hospital. Currently, all proceeds from the Twigs Thrift Shop will be earmarked for NWH's planned new Emergency Department. To date, the Twigs have raised more than $2,700,000 for the Hospital.
"The Thriftree is a wonderful place to shop for two reasons, "said Mary Santore of Chappaqua, current president of the Twigs. "Shoppers are supporting Northern Westchester Hospital-a very important community asset-while getting a bargain at the same time. You get good quality items at great prices. It's a win-win situation for the shopper and the Hospital."
Prices of store merchandise vary depending on material, designer, and condition, but typically, most women's dresses range from $10 to $50, women's blazers/jackets start at $8, men's suits are $15, outerwear/coats range from $10 to $15 and up, wristwatches are about $15 to $20, and jewelry starts at $3.
The Thrift Shop is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. New donations of new and gently used items will be accepted beginning January 5. Donations are made by appointment only.
