Northern Westchester Hospital Receives Accreditation and Distinction
from the American College of Radiology
Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) in Mount Kisco was recently awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and has been designated a Breast Imaging "Center of Excellence" by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The designation of Breast Imaging Center of Excellence was attained by the Hospital for achieving ACR Accreditation in three areas of breast imaging including Mammography, Stereotactic Biopsy and Breast Ultrasound. Northern Westchester Hospital is the only hospital in Westchester County to achieve this distinction.
MRI and Women's Imaging are among the many state-of-the-art imaging services offered at NWH. A "hi-definition" GE HDx MRI and Women's Imaging Center are the cornerstones of new Advanced Imaging technology recently acquired at Northern Westchester Hospital.
"We look at the ACR as the benchmark for quality. They provide us with an independent, expert assessment of our image quality and practice standards," said NWH's Chief of Radiology Peter Khouri, M.D. "The ACR certification is the stamp of recognized consistency and excellence in imaging."
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Virginia, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer review of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR's Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
