Northern Westchester Hospital to Host National Healthcare Decisions Day Event
On April 16, Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) in Mount Kisco is hosting a program designed to educate the community about the importance of end of life planning and advance directives. The event is being held on National Healthcare Decisions Day, a grassroots initiative which was conceived less than a year ago to encourage patients to express their wishes regarding healthcare. The event is free and open to the public.
NWH's program will help participants understand their choices and instruct them on how to share their wishes with loved ones and health care providers. Other topics to be discussed include: healthcare proxies, living wills, DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) and MOLST (Medical Orders for Sustaining Treatment) forms and how to complete them.
Healthcare attorney and social worker from Fordham University Mary Beth Morrissey, Esq., and NWH Ethics Committee members Hal Federman, MD; Robert Newborn, MD; Danielle Pierotti, RN, MSN, AOCN; Jerri Rosenfeld, LMSW; and Reverend Donald Heringa will be on hand for the discussion.
The program will begin at 6pm in the NWH Conference Center. A light supper will be provided. For more information, contact Janet Costantino at (914) 242-8369.
