Auxiliary of Northern Westchester Hospital Hosts 4th Annual Lunch & Learn Event 

The Auxiliary of Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH), a group of local volunteer women who serve as community ambassadors for the Hospital, recently hosted the 4th Annual Northern Westchester Hospital Lunch & Learn program at GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills.

The event chairs, Christina Dochtermann of Bedford Hills, Jaclene Ginnel of Pound Ridge, and Samantha O'Brien of Pound Ridge worked closely with NWH's Chief Medical Officer Marla Koroly, MD, to bring the community an informative and interesting selection of current topics. The event featured NWH medical experts discussing topics including aesthetic surgery, spine and joint surgery, breast cancer, migraines, and management of chronic or acute pain. Participants attended two educational sessions and a gourmet lunch.

The Lunch & Learn is held each year to better educate the community about NWH's medical experts, services, and facilities. This year's panel of speakers included Anthony Cahan, M.D., chief of NWH's Division of Breast Surgery; Rand Stack, M.D., White Plains Radiology Associates; Karen Maier, R.N., clinical coordinator of Integrative Medicine and Palliative Care at NWH; Alexandra McBride, M.D., Epilepsy & Clinical Neurophysiology, Mount Kisco Medical Group (MKMG); Anne West, LAC, R.N., NWH acupuncture; Alain de Lotbiniere, M.D., medical director, NWH Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center and co-medical director of the NWH Gamma Knife Program; Michael Rosenberg, M.D., associate director of NWH Institute of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine; David Palaia, M.D., plastic and reconstructive surgery, NWH Institute of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine; Douglas Roth, M.D., plastic and reconstructive surgery, NWH Institute of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine and MKMG; Bennie W. Chiles III, M.D., Westchester Spine & Brain Surgery; Evan Karas, M.D., Orthopedics, MKMG; and David Yasgur, M.D., Orthopedics, MKMG.

"When we put together our topics and panelists, one of our goals was that the event would conclude with attendees saying, 'I had no idea physicians or expertise of this nature was available at our community hospital,'" said Dochtermann. "A common comment was that it is incredible to know that our local hospital has drawn extraordinary expertise into our community and that we no longer feel we need to go into the city or elsewhere for top-caliber diagnosis, treatment, or care."

The Auxiliary, now in its 51st year, also conducts outreach and educational programs such as Kindergarten Tours of NWH for seven local elementary schools and offers children philanthropic opportunities through the Special Occasion Club.
