Twigs
Twigs is a volunteer group dedicated to raising money for Northern Westchester Hospital and to providing comfort items to its patients. There are nearly 200 Twig members in 9 branches. Volunteers make personal hand-made crafts to place on meal trays; layettes, newborn caps and receiving blankets for maternity patients; and cough pillows for surgery patients.
The Trifttree The shop sells clothing and shoes for adults and children, toys, books, small appliances, house wares, jewelry, and gift items.
To donate to the shop, please call 914.666.6557. Volunteers are needed to work in the thrift shop to price and sell donated merchandise and to make items for hospital patients. To volunteer with Twigs, contact Mary Santore, Twigs President, at 914.238.3839, maryfsantore@yahoo.com History Twigs was founded at Rochester City Hospital in Rochester, New York in 1887 by Lois Whitney. It began as a group of women who enjoyed meeting together while discussing worthwhile projects for the hospital. Deciding that they were not big enough to be called a branch of anything, they humorously called themselves a "Twig." In 1945, Twigs was started at Northern Westchester Hospital. Over the years, Twigs has made a variety of comfort items for hospital patients, and since 1964, has run a thrift shop to raise funds for the hospital.
