Support Groups and Resources

Look Good, Feel Better Program

This free program is designed to help women in cancer treatment learn techniques to restore their self-image and cope with changes in appearance. Certified beauty professionals provide tips on skin care, makeup, nail care, wig care, and styling with a variety of head coverings. Each participant receives a complimentary cosmetic kit to use during the program, and take home. The LGFB program is provided through a partnership of the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Cosmetic Toiletry & Fragrance Association (CTFA) Foundation, the National Cosmetology Association (NCA), and Northern Westchester Hospital.

Date: 4th Tuesday of the month

Caregiver Support Group

Being a caregiver for someone you love on an ongoing basis is not easy, both physically and emotionally. Often times caregiving is the most difficult job you will every have. Our group provides an atmosphere where you can spend time caring for yourself through voicing how things are going for you as well as learning how to cope with the difficult demands of being a caregiver. The group provides an opportunity for caregivers to come together and support one another. Strength, peace and comfort are often received in sharing common struggles and challenges. Schedule a one-on-one with a Caregiver Coach or register for a meeting.

Date: 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month

Time: 9:30am - 10:30am

NICU Family Support Group

NWH offers a warm nurturing environment for meeting other NICU families, to network with one another, share feelings, and ask questions about your NICU journey.

Kripalu Yoga and Meditation Classes (For patients with cancer and their caregivers)

Kripalu yoga is an ancient system of relaxation, gentle stretching, and breath work designed to create harmony and balance for the body, mind, and spirit. The class will focus on gentle stretching, relaxation techniques and breathing. The goal is to assist patients and caregivers in managing stress, fatigue and other symptoms. Participants will also experience meditative guided imagery for healing and recovery. All classes are provided complimentary for our patients and their primary caregivers.

Date: 4th Saturday of every month

Time: 10:00am - 11:00am

Group Drumming For Health Outcomes

Come join HealthRHYTHMS group empowerment drumming workshops. No prior musical experience is necessary and instruments are provided. The group is open to anyone interested in discovering their own personal rhythm!

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program: A Medically Supervised Exercise Program

According to recent findings, exercise has been shown to be both safe and beneficial for cancer patients in improving their physical functioning and quality of life. The Medically Supervised Exercise Program, introduced by Northern Westchester Hospital as a part of its Cancer Wellness Initiative, offers exercise curriculums for both cancer patients and cancer survivors. The program is run under a team of healthcare professionals headed by Dr. Nicholas Rummo, board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pulmonology. The six to twelve week programs are individually designed and supervised, with periodic reassessment to maintain consistency as well as to modify the program based on the needs and ability of the patient.

Please discuss with your oncologist and/or plastic surgeon prior to undertaking exercise treatment.

Nutritional Therapy and Educational Services for Cancer Care and Wellness

Whether newly diagnosed, receiving treatment, or a cancer survivor, maintaining healthful dietary practices can promote a greater sense of well-being while potentially reducing the risk for the development of recurrence disease. A Registered Dietitian is available to design a comprehensive nutrition program tailored to meet each patient's individual needs for optimal health. Private and semi-private consultations are available by appointment.

Allison Cecere, M.S., R.D., CDN, is the Nutrition Coordinator for Northern Westchester Hospital's Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center. She earned her Master's degree in Human Nutrtion and Food Studes from New York University and completed her clinical training at New York Methodist Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital.

Breast Cancer Support Group

The staff at the Breast Cancer Patient Education Program will provide you and your family with reliable, understandable breast cancer education and will give you guidance regarding the vast amount of information available to you. You may schedule individual appointments to discuss your questions and concerns and receive appropriate educational support. Facilitated by Support Connection.
