Who We Are

Founded in 1916, Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) is a not-for-profit, 233-bed, all private room facility in Mount Kisco,New York serving residents of Northern Westchester, Putnam and Southern Dutchess Counties in New York and portions of Fairfield County, CT. The hospital has long been recognized as one of the region's premier healthcare providers, offering state-of-the-art care in a warm and nurturing environment for all area residents regardless of their health insurance status or ability to pay for medical care.

NWH is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and is affiliated with Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and Weill-Cornell Medical College. These relationships offer our patients access to a wide range of advanced expertise, research and clinical trials in their own community. NWH is also one of four members of the Stellaris Health Network, which helps achieve operating efficiencies that enable member hospitals to enhance delivery of high quality healthcare services.

As a not-for-profit hospital, NWH provides many community benefits such as charity care and community outreach for our most at-risk patients.

  • The Community Health Outreach Program provides free health education and screenings to over 2,500 underserved individuals annually.
  • The Breast Health Initiative provides a continuum of free breast health services (including mammography) to un- and underinsured women.
  • Universal Access ensures that all members of the community receive timely and appropriate healthcare.
  • The Prenatal Care Assistance Program (PCAP) provides comprehensive care to uninsured pregnant women in Westchester and Putnam Counties.
  • The GI Clinic provides access to board-certified gastroenterologists for low-income, uninsured patients. 

Investing in the Community

  • NWH is the largest employer in Mount Kisco, employing 1,423 people of which 237 are Mount Kisco residents.
  • NWH has brought state-of-the-art healthcare technology and medical expertise to the community.
  • The hospital's dedicated employees volunteer their time in the community with many local organizations such as the Ambulance Corps, EMS, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, PTAs, and houses of worship.
  • NWH supports local community groups and organizations by providing volunteer physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals for screenings, as well as sponsoring events and special programs.
  • NWH provided over $4 million in 2008 in uncompensated charity care, including free care and services to un- and underinsured adults and children.

 High Impact

  • NWH activity generated over $280,000,000 million of economic impact in the community, according to the Healthcare Association of NewYork State (HANYS) January 2008 Economy and Community report.
  • A significant portion of this revenue comes from hospital expenditures such as goods and services and compensation, as well as money spent on construction and renovation projects.Additionally, monies spent locally by employees and visitors generates substantial income for the regional economy.

Patients have consistently ranked NWH in the top 6% (inpatients) and 10% (Emergency Department patients) of community hospitals nationwide, as measured by Press Ganey Surveys.

 We're Honored

  • One of the first five hospitals in the country, and the only one in NewYork State, to receive the prestigious recognition of Designated Planetree Hospital from the Planetree Alliance.
  • NWH has received several awards and has been recognized for the past two years as the First Clean Air NY Champion in the Region by demonstrating commitment to action against poor air quality including the MetroPool/NuRide programs
  • The National Patient Safety Foundation has recognized NWH with the Stand Up for Patient Safety Award

 Public Recognition

NWH is licensed, accredited, affiliated and a member of many institutions.We are proud to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and the NewYork State Department of Health as a Specialty Center for Premature Infants. In addition, NWH is accredited by the American Diabetes Association as a Center for Diabetes Education.The Respiratory Care Department has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) for the past two years. Less than 10% of hospitals nationwide have received this recognition.
