AT NORTHERN WESTCHESTER HOSPITAL

The Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center at Northern Westchester Hospital

Northern Westchester Hospital has a long proud history of providing expertise, technology and humanity in the treatment of cancer patients locally in the community.

In 2005, the Hospital opened a new Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center with state-of-the-art advanced technology for radiation therapy. In November 2008, NWH  opened the first floor (above the ground floor) of the Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center, which includes physician offices, the Laurie Bass Sklaver Infusion Center, support group space and a resource center.

The Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center is comfortable BY DESIGN

Designed around a patient-centered model of care, the Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center is a modern, comfortable and peaceful setting for quality cancer care. The facility was built in the spirit of Planetree, a non-profit membership organization working with hospitals to develop and implement patient-centered care in healing environments. Northern Westchester Hospital is a member of the Planetree organization and has recently been recognized as a "Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Care Hospital."

NWH's multidisciplinary team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, oncology nurses and specialists in brain tumors, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, gynecologic cancers, lung cancer, and prostate cancer and have trained and practiced at leading institutions and bring years of clinical experience in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer locally to the community.

NWH is accredited by the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program (COMP). This accreditation measures the institution's delivery of care to ensure that the highest standards are maintained.

The Center is staffed by highly-trained and skilled physicians, oncology nurses and support staff and offers the latest non-invasive and minimally invasive approaches to diagnosing and treating all types of cancer - all in a comforting, healing environment.

Oncology Program Mission Statement

The Oncology Program at Northern Westchester Hospital is dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in our patients and the community at large. This is achieved through a multi-disciplinary approach, which seeks to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational and spiritual needs of our patients and their families.

Education is the cornerstone of our program. Provided along a continuum that encompasses community education, community health screenings, patient education programs, patient/family seminars and physician continuing education.

Our program is characterized by a strong patient-physician and hospital-community relationship. To further our delivery of high quality care, the interdisciplinary cancer committee will share knowledge through our tumor board and registry while providing quality assurance and continuous improvement programs.

Cancer Committee

The hospital's multi-disciplinary Cancer Committee is comprised of representatives from the medical, nursing and support staff who meet monthly to discuss trends and treatment alternatives as well as make recommendations to enhance the range of services available for patients. Dr. Gino Bottino, medical oncologist, is Chairman of the Cancer Committee at Northern Westchester Hospital.

The Tumor Board is a multidisciplinary oncology conference conducted weekly at NWH.  These meetings provide a forum in which representatives from various disciplines can discuss in-depth treatment options and specific need s of each case presented .  The topics are discussed prospectively and reflect the cancer experience at NWH. Tumor Board Conferences are open to the entire medical staff.
