You and Your Baby

At NWH, we believe our patients should have a birthing experience designed to meet their expectations, keeping in mind what is advised medically to assure the safest delivery for mother and baby.

Our team of dedicated professionals includes:

  • Highly-qualified obstetricians trained to manage high-risk pregnancies
  • Full-time perinatologists, neonatologists, and obstetrical anesthesiologists with 24 hour coverage
  • Nurses, midwives, pediatricians, lactation consultants and other allied healthcare professionals

The staff of the Center for Maternal/Child Health provides expert medical care for you and your baby in a family-centered environment.

They are ready to help each woman through her unique birth experience with the most natural approach or with high-tech medical interventions, as necessary.

They provide the comfort, reassurance and personal attention you expect during your birth experience.

Members of our medical and nursing staff have trained at leading institutions, have long enjoyed careers at NWH and possess a wealth of knowledge that they readily share with their patients and their families. These healthcare professionals use a team approach to support families during this very special event in their lives.

Birthing Rooms

Six beautifully decorated, state-of-the-art private birthing rooms, with private bathrooms, provide a warm, home-like environment, allowing the mother to remain in the same room throughout the birth experience. A whirlpool tub is also available to ease the pain of labor. Family members are welcome at the birth, rooming-in is available, and visiting hours are unrestricted.

Following delivery, patients will move to a private room on the post-partum unit. Here patients can take advantage of various amenities including Integrative Therapies and Room Service. For the health of your infant, visiting by children is limited to the brothers and sisters of the baby.

Prenatal Care Clinic

In accordance with NWH's mission to serve its entire community,Prenatal Care Center provides high quality, individualized and comprehensive prenatal care services to low-income, uninsured and underinsured women who are pregnant.

Care is provided on a dedicated unit of the hospital by a highly experienced team that includes board-certified physicians, registered nurses, and medical and professional support staff. The staff is committed to maintaining patient privacy and to offering convenient, easily accessible services. Call 914.666.1111 for more information.

Childbirth

During your pregnancy you will discuss a delivery plan with your doctor, review labor symptoms and who to notify and when. You will learn about pain management and anesthetics. During labor, complimentary therapies include the use of a whirlpool tub, walks, relaxation techniques, music, oils for massage and a healing basket.

After You Give Birth

Once you have given birth, the nursing staff will provide you with instructions and information about how to care for yourself and how to feed, diaper, bathe and care for your new baby. The nurses are always available to answer any questions.

Lactation Consultants

Board-certified lactation consultants provide instruction and support with breastfeeding. A lactation consultant is available for one-on-one support to new mothers during their stay at NWH and after they are discharged. For questions regarding breastfeeding call 914.666.1370.
