Surgery

Northern Westchester Hospital offers extensive surgical expertise with highly-credentialed surgical specialists in virtually every discipline.

NWH’s Operating Rooms are equipped with the latest minimally invasive technologies to perform a wide range of procedures including: urological, neurosurgical, vascular, gynecological, orthopedic, otolaryngologic and general surgical cases. All nine operating rooms are equipped with the PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System), which allows the surgeon to digitally view radiology images taken at NWH or one of the Hospital’s outpatient centers. With PACS, physicians are able to make more informed patient care decisions. In addition, intraoperative CT systems allow the surgeons to verify the outcomes of a procedure before the patient leaves the Operating Room.

Robotic Surgery- In keeping with the latest technological advances, The Hospital has also launched a Robotic Surgery program. The da Vinci S HD Surgical System offers a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures using a four armed robotic platform, with greater accuracy, shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries. Currently, NWH is using the DaVinci Robotic Surgical System for select urology and gynecologic surgeries.

Pediatric Surgery- The staff is dedicated to providing a positive surgical experience for inpatients undergoing surgery, as well as for ambulatory and minor surgery cases. NWH has put many initiatives in place to ensure that children and their families will be comfortable in the Surgical Center. Special accommodations include the opportunity for parents to accompany their child into the operating room and remain until the child is sedated. Parents may be present immediately upon their child’s arrival to the recovery room. Families are also welcome to take part in a pre-operative surgical tour and have the opportunity to meet the staff in advance of a procedure.

Laser services are available for general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology and urology.

Laparoscopic services are available for general surgery, cardiovascular, colorectal, gynecology, orthopedics, and urology.

Anesthesia services are available in-house 24-hours a day.

Dr. Jerry Weinberg is Director of Surgical Services at Northern Westchester Hospital.

Dr. David Miller is Chief of Anesthesiology at Northern Westchester Hospital.

Dr. Ihor Cehelsky is Chief of General Surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital.
